THE COMPANY
Established in 1986, Fibron designs and manufactures cables and umbilicals (which combine cables and hoses) that can be used for lots of different applications, often offshore and subsea.
As an example, we might supply an umbilical that connects a commercial diver to the surface. The umbilical may deliver air so the diver can breathe, hot water to keep the diver warm, power for lights and tools, and fibre-optic cables for video and communication. Fibron would design the umbilical, manufacture it, test it and then pack it, ready to be sent to our customer, wherever they are in the world. Fibron can make cables and umbilicals for lots of different purposes from offshore wind turbines and underwater robots to deep ocean research and mine sweeping.
Since 2023, Fibron has been part of the global Hexatronic Group, which is a Swedish company with its headquarters in Gothenburg. Listed on the Nasdaq, Stockholm, the group filed a turnover of SEK 8.15bn in 2023 – that’s around £600m. Fibron is run as a largely independent business, with about 120 employees, most of whom work at our factory and head office in Hoddesdon. Fibron has an excellent reputation in the market and has been very successful in recent years.
OVERVIEW
The leadership team at Fibron recognises that going to university can be an expensive commitment. For some people and for some professions, further education at university or vocational college makes a sensible choice. Our aim with this scheme is to provide an attractive alternative for people who are interested in starting a career in business.
Fibron has developed a management trainee scheme that gives young, talented and motivated people the opportunity to gain experience in several different business disciplines, have the opportunity to study for appropriate qualifications and earn a competitive salary at the same time.
It is hoped that we will facilitate the development of a new generation of knowledgeable employees who are able to enjoy career progression within Fibron and it’s sister companies across the Hexatronic Group.
THE SCHEME - OVERVIEW
We recognise that many school leavers will not have had sufficient experience of the different business disciplines to know which career path they would like to follow. This scheme aims to provide broad experience across several different business functions in a structured rotation.
In order to gain a thorough understanding of the business, the participants will complete a 3-month placement in each of the following departments:
- QHSE
- Project management
- Accounts and Human Resources
- Marketing
During each placement, they will be given the opportunity to understand what each department does, and much of the trainee’s time will be spent working in that department.
In addition, the trainee may be involved in some other project work, and it is expected that they will also spend some time in other departments, including purchasing, scheduling, the factory, stores, engineering design and sales.
At the end of the first year, we will discuss career opportunities with each trainee, and work with them to find the most suitable role within the business going forwards.
Participants will be supported by a mentor throughout the scheme.
