Answers to common questions about early project involvement, system interfaces and coordinating bespoke cable and umbilical requirements.
Early involvement allows the cable, terminations, deployment equipment and operating procedure to be considered together. This can help identify potential conflicts involving reel capacity, sheave diameter, bend limits, weight, power requirements, connector interfaces or termination space before other parts of the system are fixed.
Useful information can include the application, operating environment, water depth, electrical and optical requirements, working and breaking loads, buoyancy, length, reel and winch details, deployment method, terminations, connectors, applicable standards and required test documentation.
Not every parameter needs to be known at the outset. Fibron’s engineers can help identify missing design inputs and areas requiring further definition as the project develops.
Yes. Existing reel capacity, drum and sheave geometry, safe working load, deployment tension, heave-compensation requirements and vessel constraints can all influence the design. Considering these interfaces early helps reduce the risk of the final cable being incompatible with the wider system.
