Offshore Wind

Sustainable Energy

As the world seeks to transition to cleaner and more sustainable sources of energy, offshore wind power has gained momentum, with floating wind turbines playing an increasingly significant role in expanding the reach of wind energy. Subsea cables are instrumental in ensuring the functionality and longevity of these floating structures, making them a crucial component in the offshore wind industry.

Floating Wind Turbines

Floating wind turbines, unlike their fixed counterparts, are not anchored to the seabed. Instead, they float on the water’s surface, using ballast to maintain their stability. This design allows for the placement of wind turbines in deeper waters, where the wind resources are more abundant and consistent.

However, it also presents unique challenges for installation, operation, and maintenance. Dynamic and static subsea umbilicals are part of the solution to many of these challenges.

Subsea Umbilicals

Subsea umbilicals may be used to transmit power, communication, and control signals from the floating turbine to the seabed infrastructure. This enables the precise positioning and alignment of the wind turbine, ensuring it is properly oriented to harness the wind’s energy.

These umbilicals also deliver data back to onshore control centres, allowing operators to monitor the turbine’s performance, make adjustments, and respond to any issues in real-time.
