A crucial element of the umbilicals and cables we produce are the terminations and ancillary equipment. Most of the mechanical terminations are designed in-house and manufactured locally. Our customers benefit from being able to source the whole package (including umbilical, termination and testing) from one trusted supplier.

Terminations & Ancillaries FAQs
What is an Umbilical Termination Assembly?
An Umbilical Termination Assembly (UTA) or Umbilical Termination Head (UTH) is a fitting or assembly that is attached to the end of an umbilical cable, to provide a means of transferring loads (installation and operating) and services (fluids, electrical power, control signals and/or data) to a mating assembly mounted on the sub-sea equipment or surface facility.
What is the difference between a bend stiffener and a bend restrictor?
A bend stiffener is a tapered moulding that adds graduated local stiffness to an umbilical cable, along the bend stiffener’s length. A bend restrictor (or bend limiter) is an interlocking assembly that prevents an umbilical from bending beyond a specific geometric limit: it constrains the extent of bending, rather than changing the umbilical’s effective local stiffness.
What is a Topside Umbilical Termination Unit?
A Topside Umbilical Termination Unit (TUTU) is a surface module located on an offshore platform, floating production facility or vessel, that links a subsea umbilical cable to the facility's main control equipment. Its functions can be to connect services, to transfer power and fluids, to manage communications and data transfer, and/or to control pressures.
What is a Subsea Umbilical Termination Unit?
A Subsea Umbilical Termination Unit (SUTU) is a seabed structure that secures the end of a subsea umbilical cable and splits its internal lines to distribute services to the local underwater infrastructure. Its functions can be to anchor the subsea end of the umbilical cable, to distribute services (power, fluids, communications and/or data) to their subsea point of use, and/or to act as a hub for flying leads or jumpers to individual subsea devices.
What is a multi-quick-connect plate?
A multi-quick-connect plate (or “MQC” plate) is a mechanical interface device that allows the connection and disconnection of an umbilical cable’s multiple services (power, fluids, communications and/or data) simultaneously, with a single motion. Typically, this is achieved by all of the individual couplers/connectors being installed on a matched pair of metal plates, with keyed pins and alignment guides to ensure correct matching of the plates and no cross-connection of the couplers/connectors, with a lever or handle (often ROV-compatible) to engage the MQC.
Here to help
If you need an umbilical or cable and can’t immediately see what you’re looking for, please do get in touch. Most of our work is bespoke to the needs of a particular project, so we can’t show all of our capabilities on our website. As experts in our field, if you need a cable or umbilical, particularly for use in a challenging environment like offshore, there’s a good chance that we’ll be able to help.
